Daffo has just dropped ‘Dagger Song’, and it’s the kind of track that hits you right in the chest. The latest single from Gabi Gamberg’s upcoming debut album Where The Earth Bends (out 26th September via Concord Records) is raw, honest, and utterly compelling.
Dagger Song has that immediate dark swagger of a South London indie band with the most LA accent you’ve ever heard to keep you on your toes.
The song’s backstory is as sharp as its title. “Someone I was very close with for a long time decided to stop speaking to me, and I wrote this song about our matching dagger tattoos and about mourning our relationship overall,” Gamberg explains. Written in one sitting, it’s a masterclass in letting emotions flow without overthinking them.
This isn’t just another indie track with pretty melodies. Daffo’s work cuts through the noise with what critics are calling “uniquely confessional lyricism” and “punchy power-pop with a folky twang.”
Produced by Rob Schnapf (the bloke behind Elliott Smith, Beck, and Cat Power), Where The Earth Bends promises to be a proper coming-of-age album. It’s got that intimate yet frenetic sound that perfectly matches Gamberg’s emotional intensity.
The journey to this point hasn’t been straightforward. Starting with violin at six, then classical training, Gamberg eventually found their way to guitar and the DIY scene in northern New Jersey. After a stint at arts school in California and NYU’s Clive Davis Institute, they’re now signed to Concord Records and ready to take on the world.
UK fans won’t have to wait long to see Daffo live. They’ve announced dates in Manchester (29th October), Leeds (30th October), and London (31st October), before heading off to support Wednesday across North America.
If ‘Dagger Song’ is anything to go by, Where The Earth Bends is going to be something special. It’s the kind of album that reminds you why music matters – when someone strips away all the pretence and just tells you exactly how they feel.
